To install Google Maps’ navigation functionality already seen on US Motorola Droid no hacker skills whatsoever are required.
Hack is working again (maps4.0.0-brut4-alt.apk file updated)! Just follow instructions below.
Google Maps Navigation
The gmaps navigation application can be installed on any Android device (eg. Dream, Magic, G1, G2, Hero, etc.). Attention, the author is not responsible for any damages that could be caused by installing the app.
First download following install package (maps4.0.0-brut4-alt.apk ) to your computer. Transfer this file to your SD card (eg. via USB). Place it just anywhere, you just need to be able to retrieve it

Then load a file manager from the market. Eg. Astro File manager, Filedroid [lite] or similar…
With the file manager navigate to the file and chose “packet installer”. A normal Android install routine is triggered. Follow the instructions as normal. This can take some time. Now restart your phone and open the newley installed maps navigation (the left one). Standard maps app can not be uninstalled.
How to use it: Routing as normal and then chose “navigation” instead of “show on map”. Done!
